Description
Composition:
Each film-coated tablet contains: Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride USP equivalent to Ciprofloxacin 500mg.
Pharmacology and Indications
Ciprofloxacin is bactericidal, active in vitro against most gram positive and gram negative bacteria by Inhibiting the A subnit of DNA gyrase which is essential in the reproduction of bacterial DNA.
It is indicated for the treatment of Urinary Tract. Infections (UTI), Enteric infections, Bone and joint infections, Sexually transmitted disease (STD) and Respiratory tract infections( RTI).
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to quinolones, Pregnancy, lactation and in children below 15 years.
Side effects: Ciprofloxacin is generally well tolerated. Adverse effects are generally mild and include gastrointestinal disturbances, skin reactions, CNS effects, renal effects, hematological and hepatic disorders as well as allergic reactions.
Precautions:
Use with caution in patients with suspected CNS disorders example cerebral arteriosclerosis and epilepsy. Patients receiving Ciprofloxacin should be well hydrated.
Caution should be exercised during concurrent administration of Antacids, Theophylline and probenecid and in patients with renal impairment.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Ciprofloxacin: should not be used in pregnant women lactating women and children.
Dosage and administration:
Oral – 250 to 750mg morning and night depending on severity of infection. Dose adjustment is required in renal impairment.
A single oral dose is suggested for treatment of gonorrhoea and prophylaxis in meningococcal meningitis.
Identification: ZONEFLOX 500mg comes as a white coloured, oblong, film-coated tablet having break line on one side presented as 1×10 Alu-Alu blister in a carton.
